Tune in to SITI TV this Merdeka

Datuk Siti Nurhaliza has set many firsts throughout her career, but even she could never have imagined having a whole TV channel dedicated to her.

In conjunction with the 52nd Merdeka, it will be a special treat to Siti’s fans when Astro unveils a special channel dedicated to the country’s reigning queen of Malay pop.

The channel, on 188, to be christened SITI,will run for two days non-stop from 8pm on Aug 30 to 11.59pm, Aug 31 and will feature the Satu concert by Siti in Istana Budaya which was recorded in June.

Fans will also get a healthy dose of Siti’s music with the Konsert Siti Nurhaliza Fantasia as well as music videos of the singer’s most popular tunes.

“I am honoured to have been chosen by Astro to work together with them on SITI. It is a special event to be able to air the concert which for me is an apt celebration of the theme of Merdeka,” said Siti who added that it was indeed a milestone in her career to have a channel of her own.

“Even though it is only on for two days, it will serve as a platform for many other things in the future.”

Astro Malay Language Business head Khairul Anwar Salleh said the launch of the channel was suitable for the Merdeka celebrations.

“We chose Siti from the start as we think she is a Malaysian icon. And the Satu concert is more than appropriate in the spirit of Merdeka.”

Satu has never been aired so far over any other media and it will be the first when it goes on air over SITI for free to all subscribers.

“Apart from Satu, the Konsert Siti Nurhaliza Fantasia, which was held in Bukit Jalil in 2004, is a bonus for fans.”

On whether the channel would be continued to feature other artistes, he said it would depend on a number of factors.

On whether Astro would woo Siti into joining Astro’s stable of exclusive talents signed to the satellite provider, Khairul merely shrugged off the question and said he was not in the position to comment.
